FROM THE AUTHOR'S DESK:"PRIVATE THOUGHTS, PRIVATE MEMORIES"My mother once told me, "You can't help who you love." Truer words were never spoken. Imagine how simple life would be if only you could.
I've always liked being around people and spending time with them. However, staying in one place very long was not in the cards for me, so when it was time to move on, I'd grab my bag and hit the road carrying along a few memories. Over the years I met many fascinating women; some were friends, some were lovers, some were so very much more ... some broke my heart and some I didn't realize what I had held until they were no longer there. I was never one to share my inner feelings, so when something bothered me I'd go off to find a quiet place and write about it. This seemed to help. Eventually my writing evolved into poetry. I occasionally shared my poems with close friends. From the responses I received, I began to realize that although my feelings were very personal, they were universal. Over the next several years, I assembled my book of poetry and called it "Private Thoughts, Private Memories." Before I go further, I want to pause for a moment and say if you're looking for poetry that requires a lot of intellectual interpretation I suggest you probably want to look somewhere else.
"Private Thoughts, Private Memories" is dedicated to love and its many facets - to the victors and the survivors. It is written for people who have taken a chance on love reaping the bounty of its glory and wonderment. It's also for those who have suffered the raw emotion of heartbreak and may still be bearing the scars of a failed relationship. Some of my poems were written for very special people and the times we spent together. Others are about loneliness and despair, and some are in between. Here are a few of the titles with captions: The first one begins with a question. What would you do if you knew your fate? If someone told you your fortune could you change it... could you change yourself? Maybe I should have listened more closely when I had my fortune told by "The Old Gypsy." Another section is about two mornings (two very different mornings) three years apart. First morning, "So Good To Be Me"; second morning - three years later -"Cleveland Hotel, Room 517". On the lighter side, I'd be willing to bet that most of you at one time or another have loved from afar even though you probably knew it was doomed from the start. Well, so have I, and I wrote about it in "Love Wasted." You may be familiar with the expression, 'two ships that pass in the night.' This is addressed in "Private Party." "Be Careful Heart" was written for a young friend of mine. She told me about a new love interest and the presence of old fears that still lingered from a past romance.
On a more serious note, the following poems will take you through a variety of emotions: "Before Tomorrow Came," "I Didn't Know," "All or Nothing," "You," "Summer's End," "Insomnia," "Our Scrapbook," "Testament," "Last Call," "Barren Memories," and many more. Some have lead-ins, and others just speak for themselves. Writing can be a lonely profession, so occasionally I schedule poetry readings. I like doing them because of the people I meet and the responses I get. What I share with you in my poems is called 'life' and sometimes it's not a fairytale. I believe you'll like "Private Thoughts, Private Memories." Best wishes always,
